Main differences between types of nose surgery: aesthetic and functional.
Aesthetic Rhinoplasty seeks harmony of the nose with the face. This type of surgery can be associated with functional Rhinoplasty, which aims to improve breathing. We decide which one will be indicated after a medical consultation and evaluation of your case.
How is aesthetic rhinoplasty performed?
Aesthetic Rhinoplasty can be performed in two ways: structured or preservation. In structured surgery, there is a small cut at the base of the nose, between the nostrils, in a place called the Columella. The scar becomes imperceptible over the months. In this approach, there is greater exposure of the structures.
In preservation Rhinoplasty, the scars are internal, located on the edge of the nostril. It is a more conservative approach, performed in selected cases.
How is nasal structuring performed?
To perform nasal structuring, we use molded cartilage, which can be harvested from the septum, ear, or rib, depending on the amount and stability required.
How long does a rhinoplasty take?
The surgery can last from 2 to 5 hours depending on the type of approach and the changes to be made to correct the details identified in the consultation.
Who can have plastic surgery on the nose? Who cannot?
To undergo plastic surgery on the nose, the person must have their growth stabilized, so it should not be performed before age 16.
Can someone who has had rhinomodeling or PMMA bioplasty undergo rhinoplasty?
If the patient has undergone filling, the recommendation is to wait 6 months to 1 year before undergoing rhinoplasty. Each case must be evaluated by the surgeon. If Hyaluronic Acid was used, the risk is much lower compared to PMMA, which is a permanent substance.
What type of anesthesia is used in rhinoplasty, local or general?
We choose general anesthesia for your comfort and safety.
How long does it take to see the results of rhinoplasty?
Because it is a small structure full of details, the result appears definitively when there is no more swelling in the region, which happens after 1 year. Of course, the biggest transformations are already visible after the dressings are removed, at 15 days.
• Where will I recover after the surgery?
Hospital discharge can be on the same day or the day after the surgery.
• Will a dressing be required after surgery? When will it be removed?
A dressing is performed to reduce swelling and maintain the nasal structure. It is removed within 15 days after the procedure.
• Will stitches be removed? When?
Stitches are removed after 7 days.
• How long does the nose stay swollen?
Swelling lasts approximately 1 year.
• Why does the nose feel hard after rhinoplasty?
It is normal for the nose to feel harder after surgery. This is due to the nasal structuring with cartilage.
• When can I resume normal activities and physical exercise?
Activities like work can be resumed after 1 week. Physical activities without impact on the region can be started after 1 month.
• When will the follow-up consultation be?
Follow-up is done at 1 week, 15 days, and 1 month.
How much does a rhinoplasty cost?
Depending on the professionals and the structure involved, to give you greater safety, you will find rhinoplasty with varying values.
Now, pay close attention when choosing the professional!
Do not use price as the main factor. As I said, although rare unforeseen events can occur, the location and doctor you choose must be prepared to handle them.
How to choose a doctor?
When choosing a plastic surgeon to perform rhinoplasty, remember that the surgeon's experience and your good relationship with them are as important as the final cost of the surgery.
A good starting point is to use the list below as a guide during your consultation.
